The Startup India initiative, which was launched on January 16th, 2016, is aimed to foster innovation, assist startups, and encourage investments. As Startup India’s eighth anniversary is observed in 2024, the program has grown steadily from 400 startups in 2016 to an impressive count of over 1.18 lakh startups, according to a report published on the web portal of Startup India. The Startup India initiative includes programs such as the Seed Fund scheme and Credit Guarantee Scheme, which provide additional support to startups. The Indian Startup Ecosystem is celebrated and encouraged every year on the 16th of January, which is known as National Startup Day.
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of Sankara College of Science & Commerce, an Autonomous Arts College in Saravanampatti, in Coimbatore celebrated this year’s National Startup Day on January 19, 2024 inviting Shameer, Founder IT Projects Media and By The Startups, one of the biggest startup networking community forums in Tamilnadu, and ES Arunaa, Founder, Sphurthi Consulting Services, training & consulting firm in the area of innovation and leadership as guest speakers of the session which was attended by over 200 students from the BBA stream. Arunaa is also one of the mentors at By The Startups Community in the area of innovation and leadership.
Shameer delivered a brief motivational talk on how to build a startup from ideation to product or service development to launch, the myths of startup entrepreneurship, and the role of incubators in shaping the ideas of aspiring entrepreneurs. Arunaa handled an insightful session on the different frameworks of innovation, including four models for practical application, besides citing real-time case studies from different industries.
The Principal of the institution Dr.Radhika delivered the event’s keynote address highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship that encourages students to be job-givers rather than job-seekers. The event was elaborately arranged by EDC Coordinators Dr. Kavitha and Dr. Bhuvaneshwari of the Business Administration department. The thanksgiving note and other event activities were coordinated by the student representatives of the institution’s EDC cell.
